Embalming Fluid Isn’t Just for Exquisite Corpses Anymore

Dry climates, such as one finds in Egypt and the Sahara, are ideal for preserving documents written on plant-based materials such as papyrus and paper.  Manuscripts that are hundreds of years old have survived in the libraries of Timbuktu, and some papyri have survived for thousands of years in Egypt.  The Florida swamp is quite the opposite.  If you left a cigarette or a joint outside for weeks in Florida and it did not disintegrate, you would stand up and take notice.  Aren’t tobacco, weed, and rolling papers the most natural thing in the world, and therefore the most biodegradable?  In several cities throughout the country, coating cigarettes in embalming fluid is a thing, and anecdotal evidence suggests that embalmed cigarettes are making inroads in Florida.  Of course, sometimes the embalming fluid is something more illegal than the stuff that morticians use.  If you are facing criminal charges for “wet cigarettes,” contact a Florida drug offenses attorney.

There Is Embalming Fluid, and Then There Is “Embalming Fluid”

Most of the content in Florida’s educational curriculum is not very memorable, but even if you got high every day from middle school until graduation, a few lessons stand out.  Dissecting a frog in biology class was either awesome or gross, and drug education was the source of a lifetime of tongue-in-cheek humor.  You have since become well versed in some of the drugs you learned about, such as cannabis and LSD, and you know more about MDMA than your teachers ever will.

You also learned about some drugs that seemed so out of date that you wondered if they even still existed.  One of these was PCP, known as angel dust and sprinkled onto tobacco or cannabis before smoking.  PCP is a dissociative anesthetic, a Schedule II controlled substance, but it is not used in medicine, since its mellower cousin ketamine does a better job of ensuring an easy recovery from surgery; on the street, it also creates a more pleasant high.  PCP use declined in the 1980s, but it still has a dedicated following if you know how to look for it.  These days, though, the most popular way to ingest PCP is by dipping a cigarette or joint in liquid PCP.  In this form, PCP is known as embalming fluid.

Of course, leave it to the public to take what they read on the Internet out of context.  PCP is hard to find online, but embalming fluid of the funeral home and frog dissection kit variety is much more readily available and much less expensive.  As with so many drugs purchased on the street or online, it is not easy to tell what you are getting, so you may be in for a surprise when the forensics lab results come back.
