A Litany Of Flimsy Excuses Leads To A Drug Trafficking Arrest

From Tinted Windows to Jail to Stage Lights to Rehab

In July 2022, Bill Kapri, better known by his stage name Kodak Black, was driving in Fort Lauderdale, when a Florida Highway Patrol trooper pulled him over because his license tags were expired and because the tint on his car windows was darker than the legal limit.  Once Kapri pulled over, the trooper determined that his license was expired and claimed that the car smelled like cannabis.  A search of the vehicle ensued, yielding somewhere between 31 oxycodone pills and $75,000 in cash.

Kapri was booked into jail and accused of drug trafficking.  After some negotiations by his defense lawyer, Kapri posted $75,000 and bonded out of jail.  As one of the conditions of his release while his case is pending, the court ordered him to undergo frequent drug tests.

Everything was fine until February 2023, when he was five days late taking a drug test, and when he finally took the test, the result was positive for fentanyl.  The judge issued a warrant for Kapri’s arrest, and soon he was back in court in Broward County.  Instead of ordering him to remain in jail until his trial, the judge ordered Kapri to undergo 30 days of inpatient treatment at a drug rehabilitation clinic.  The judge set the date that Kapri is to report to the clinic on March 7.  This way, Kapri has time to attend a music festival in Los Angeles where he is scheduled to perform.
