What Is Nexus, the Latest Synthetic Psychedelic Drug in Florida’s Drug Supply?

Handcuffs4

At first glance, there is nothing extraordinary about Elijah Barney’s case.  Barney is 20 years old, and he is facing felony drug charges for selling drugs to an undercover police officer in November 2024.  As in so many cases like these, Barney communicated with the officer by phone and agreed to sell him drugs, but when they met up for the sale, police arrested Barney.  You might think that it is just another day in Florida, even after you read about the array of drugs that police found in Barney’s possession during the ensuing search.  His cannabis took the form of weed, rosin, wax, and THC cartridges, but he also had lean, LSD, MDMA, and psilocybin mushrooms.  None of these are especially rare on the standard Florida Man drug menu, but Barney also possessed a drug that, until recently, rarely found mention in the news, not even in notoriously drug-crazed Florida, namely the synthetic psychedelic 2C-B.  If you make up for, in your fashion forward taste in drugs, what you lack in the ability to tell which of your apparent admirers are undercover cops, contact a Florida drug offenses attorney.

An Entheogen So Good It Can Replace the Naturally Occurring Ones?

2C-B is not new; it is the invention of Alexander Shulgin, the prolific synthesizer of drugs with psychedelic and entheogenic potential.  Shulgin first synthesized 2C-B in 1974 and wrote about his experiences with it in his book Phenethylamines I Have Known and Loved.

Recently, 2C-B, sometimes known as Nexus, has made increasingly frequent appearances in nightclubs and in shipments of drugs purchased online.  It sometimes appears as pills, which may be stamped with a heart shape, or as a powder.  The route of administration for the powder is usually insufflation, but snorting 2C-B is notoriously painful, even though the effects are stronger than when you take it orally.  As for the desirability of 2C-B, there are even Internet rumors that practitioners of traditional medicine in Kenya and South Africa prefer it over the entheogenic plants that they have been using for centuries.

2C-B is a Schedule I controlled substance.  This means that, despite Shulgin’s efforts to determine a medical use for it, it does not currently have any legally accepted medical applications.  Therefore, it is in the same legal category as heroin and MDMA.  Despite this, no fatal overdoses on 2C-B have been reported; its worst side effects are headache and mild digestive upset.  Shulgin once accidentally took a 100 mg dose of 2C-B and lived to tell about it.  Despite this, the law does not have nearly such a lighthearted attitude toward 2C-B or other synthetic entheogens, so your best bet is a strong legal defense.
